Biharinath is the tallest hill in Bankura district, with an old Shiva temple at its foot, sal forest around it and a lake nearby. About 249 km from Kolkata. There are only a few places to stay, the roads are quiet, and in December the mist sits on the hill until mid morning. Go if what you want is silence.

The forest track
A walking track around the hill through sal and dry forest. Go with someone local, and be back before dusk.
Around it
Susunia is about 50 km, Garpanchkot and Baranti are within 30 to 40 km, and Maithon is not far. Nobody comes here for Biharinath alone.
How to reach
Durgapur Expressway to Asansol side, then the Saltora road, about 249 km from Kolkata and 247 km from Barrackpore, five to six hours. The last stretch is a narrow forest road, fine for a sedan but better in an MUV. Book the resort before the car, because there are only a handful of rooms.
