What you actually see there
Ghagra falls and Kankrajhor
Rocky rapids on the Tarafeni at Ghagra, and dense forest at Kankrajhor. Both on the Belpahari side, best in the morning.
Mukutmanipur, 60 km
The big Kangsabati reservoir, easy to add on the way in or out and a good place to break the drive.
How to reach
By car via Durgapur Expressway and Bankura, or via Kharagpur and Jhargram, about 234 km from Kolkata and 247 km from Barrackpore, five to six hours. Belpahari is about 207 km. Accommodation is forest bungalows and small resorts, so book first. Take an MUV, and ask us for a driver who knows the forest stretches.

Elephant herds use these roads, mostly in the evening and at night. Finish driving before dusk, and if you meet a herd, stop far back and wait.
Fuel up at Bankura or Jhargram. Pumps inside the forest belt are far apart.
